The PIN reset and activation service was discontinued by the Federal Ministry of the Interior on 29 December 2023. It is therefore no longer possible to request a PIN reset letter. If you have already received a PIN reset letter, you can use it to activate your online ID card function.
Reset your PIN
If you would like to have your PIN reset, you can contact your local authority's citizen service centre and have your PIN reissued.
You can find the office in charge at servicesuche.bund.de by searching for the keyword ‘PIN’ and entering your postcode.
