The eID function of my German ID card is deactivated. What do I have to do?

If you have not yet activated your eID function, you will need to do so first in order to activate your budget for the KulturPass.

We would like to point out that since the new legislation on compulsory ID cards in July 2017, German ID cards will only be produced and issued with activated electronic identification. If the activation has been actively opposed, the function can be activated at a later date.

To activate electronic identification, proceed as follows:

At your local citizens' office you can apply for a PIN and let the eID function get activated. You can find the authority responsible for you at https://servicesuche.bund.de/#/en/ if you enter your postcode and search for the keyword ‘eID function’.

After applying for your German National Identity card / the activation of your electronic identification (eID function), you will receive a PIN letter with the following information:

  1. a five-digit transport PIN (Personal Identification Number), also called activation PIN.
  2. a PUK (Personal Unblocking Key), a number to unblock a PIN
  3. a blocking password

You will need the access data to identify yourself in the KulturPass app.

Further information on registration and identification can be found here: https://service.kulturpass.de/help/en-gb/36-log-in-registration-identification.
