How can I register for the KulturPass?

From March 1, 2024, young people born in 2006 and living in Germany will be able to register in the KulturPass app, activate their KulturPass budget and use it from their 18th birthday.
Young people born in 2005 and living in Germany had the opportunity to activate their budget until December 31, 2023, and can still use their budget until the end of 2024.

To register digitally for the KulturPass app, you will need one of the following three documents:

  • German National Identity Card with Electronic Identification
  • eID Card for citizens of the EU and the EEA
  • Electronic residence title for non-EU citizens residing in Germany (“elektronischer Aufenthaltstitel/eAT”)

You can find the individual steps for registration in the KulturPass app. Once registered and identified, you can use the many offers from the various providers and redeem your budget via the KulturPass website or app.

Information on the Electronic Identification with your German National Identity Card (“Online.Ausweis”):
Nowadays, German National Identity Cards are only produced and set up with the eID function. This means that if you haven’t used the function yet, you just have to activate it.

In use the eID function, you have received a PIN in a letter either from the local citizens' registration office (“Bürgeramt”) or from the Immigration Office (“Ausländerbehörde”).

If you haven’t activated the eID function yet and can not find your PIN, you can have a new PIN issued at your local citizens' registration office (“Bürgeramt”). You can find further information here: https://www.personalausweisportal.de/Webs/PA/EN/home/home-node.html.

You can obtain a new PIN for your electronic residence permit from the Immigration Office (“Ausländerbehörde”).

Once you have generated your PIN, you can  activate the eID function either with a smartphone and the AusweisApp2 or at a local citizens' registration office (“Bürgeramt”).
